Established in 2018, Rhythm Nation Tap Company is Utah's premier professional tap dance company. The company consists of adults 18-50 years old. The company showcases original choreography, improv, and historical repertory tap works. The company is founded and directed by Wendi Isaacson. Rhythm Nation 2 and 3 are the youth ensemble tap companies that train and are mentored by the professional company.
The company is committed to their weekly training. They constantly push themselves to reach personal bests, and continue to grow and raise the level of technique within the company. They are extremely supportive of each other, and when they call each other tap family--they mean it!
In addition to technical training, Rhythm Nation is committed to studying the great tap masters that came before. Tap history is an essential part of their training. They also study music theory and immerse themselves in jazz music and culture every chance they get. They love working along side the many talented local jazz bands. They enjoy tap improvisation, and host several tap jams throughout the year. They also host annual events on May 25, National Tap Dance Day. They are often asked to be guest performers at local events and love giving back to the community. Several of the company members volunteer each month to teach tap at a local assisted living center.
In 2019 Rhythm Nation Tap Company debuted "A Very Jazzy Nutcracker." This is a full length tap dance version of the Nutcracker, set to jazz music. It has become an annual Utah favorite and always sells out.
Performances of note include Soundsations! (2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) at Covey Center for the Arts, Las Vegas Tap Fest (2021), Phoenix Tap Fest (2023), Dance for Life Gala at Capitol Theatre (2022. 2023), Disneyland California Adventure Park (2022), and Radiance Carnival cruise ship (2023).
